Curry County Circuit Court Overview

Oregon's Judicial Branch is a unified state court system made up of circuit courts, the Oregon Tax Court, the Oregon Court of Appeals, and the Oregon Supreme Court. Circuit courts are the primary trial courts. Curry County is served by the Curry County Circuit Court as part of the Coos & Curry County Circuit Courts of the Fifteenth Judicial District.

Curry County Court Hierarchy

The Oregon Supreme Court is the highest state court. The Oregon Court of Appeals is the intermediate appellate court. The Oregon Tax Court is a statewide specialized court for tax law, with Magistrate and Regular Divisions. Circuit courts are the trial courts for county-level state cases. Appeals from Curry County Circuit Court generally go to the Oregon Court of Appeals, with further review or direct review in the Oregon Supreme Court depending on the case type.

Curry County Circuit Court Cases

Curry County Circuit Court handles criminal felonies and misdemeanors filed in state court, civil actions, small claims, landlord-tenant matters, domestic relations, divorce, separation, custody, support, probate, guardianship, conservatorship, juvenile cases, mental commitment, adoption, traffic and violation matters cited into circuit court, and abuse-prevention cases. The same courthouse complex also connects practically to the District Attorney, jail, and county administrative offices, but those offices keep different records.

Some records are restricted. OJD excludes adoption, juvenile, mental health adjudication, Violence Against Women Act protected cases, sealed files, and some confidential records from ordinary online public access. A public case entry may not include all documents or protected personal information.

Curry County Municipal Court Distinctions

Municipal courts in Brookings, Gold Beach, and Port Orford handle city-level matters. OJD states that municipal courts are outside the state-funded Oregon court system. That means a city traffic ticket, parking ticket, ordinance violation, or municipal misdemeanor may not be searchable through the OJD circuit-court portal.

Curry County eFile and Calendars

OJD provides statewide online services for court users. OJD Online Records Search gives basic public case information. OJCIN provides paid Register of Actions and judgment-record access. OJD calendars let users check public hearing dates for circuit and tax court matters, but OJD warns that calendars update daily and may change during the day. For filing, OJD eFile uses Tyler/Odyssey for eligible filings.

A records user should not treat eFile, calendar search, and records search as the same tool. eFile is for submitting filings. Calendar search is for court dates. Curry County Appeals and Federal Courts

A Curry County Circuit Court appeal usually moves into Oregon's appellate court system, not into federal court. The Oregon Court of Appeals handles many circuit-court appeals, and the Oregon Supreme Court is the highest state court. Tax Court Regular Division appeals go directly to the Oregon Supreme Court. Appellate records use OJD and appellate systems rather than the local Curry County Circuit Court counter.

Curry County Circuit Court Restrictions

Oregon law and OJD policy limit some court records. Juvenile records are governed by ORS 419A.255 and are excluded from ordinary public online search. Oregon also uses "set aside" for many eligible adult arrest and conviction record-clearing orders under ORS 137.225. A set-aside order may affect public access to a criminal record, but it does not mean every agency record vanishes from every system.

Set-aside rules matter when a case was once public but later became limited by court order.

The juvenile statute source is separate because juvenile access follows its own rule set.

Juvenile records should not be treated like ordinary adult civil or criminal records.

Curry County Court and Custody Records

Some users confuse court records with custody or supervision records. A Circuit Court case file may show charges, judgments, warrants, release conditions, probation terms, or sentencing events. Jail custody records are held by Curry County Sheriff's Office and jail systems. State prison or supervision records may appear through Oregon DOC or VISOR sources. These systems can relate to the same person, but they are not the same record.
